A Blue Light Into My Mind
I woke up and saw a blue light appear through the curtain of my bedroom window. I’m on the top bunk of my bunk bed, so I parted the curtain. I saw a ghost or a monster outside and it put its hand up. Somehow the curtains fully opened on their own and the being said, “You’re under my control now! Your mind is mine!”
I closed my eyes and I was stuck in my mind. I was in front of two men.
The tall one said, “Put your hands behind your back.”
“No!” I shouted, but I felt the urge to pull my arms behind my back. I tried to fight it, but I gave in. “What’s happening? Where am I?”
“Does it matter?” the tall man said.
“Yeah, does it matter? You’re under our control now,” the short man said.
“Now, flop around like a fish,” the tall man demanded.
“No!” By the time I said that I was lying on the floor. I then flopped around like a fish out of water.
“Do a little jig,” the tall man said.
“Yeah, a jig,” the short man repeated.
I thought, If this is my mind, I should be able to do what I want. Imagine what I want.
I did a little dance and imagined a penguin. It appeared but it grew bigger and bigger until it was big enough to eat me. It swallowed me whole. I opened my eyes and I was still in my mind. I was chained to the floor. I tried to break free, but it was no use. I was stuck. Then the being from outside reappeared.
“You think you’re in control, but you’re not!” I shouted at the being.
“Oh yeah,” the being replied.
Suddenly, we were in a poorly lit room and I was tied to a chair.
“See, you have no control here. Your mind is mine!”
“Why are you doing this?” I asked.
“To get back at humanity for hurting me.”
“Who are you, Hitler?”
“No, I — ”
The room changed to a child’s playroom. I was the big brother and the being was the little brother. This time the being was tied up.
“If I untie you, will you tell me why you think people hated you?” I asked.
“Fine.”
I untied him from the plastic chair and the being immediately ran off. I chased after him through my memories. My middle school graduation, my parents getting divorced, and the moment I met my girlfriend. I followed him to the moment I first saw the being. I walked into my bedroom and saw myself looking through the window. I tried to stop myself, but it didn’t work. It was just a memory that I couldn’t alter. Then I saw a book fall onto the floor from my bookshelf. I picked it up and it was a book on how to remove spirits or monsters from anywhere. I skimmed the table of contents and found “Mind Taking Over Spirits”. I turned to page thirty-six and it said, “To remove the spirit from the mind, while inside the mind, you have to imagine yourself as the ghost. The phantom will be terrified once you float over to it and hover in front of it. Remember to look directly into its eyes.”
I put the book back on the shelf and imagined myself as the ghost. I phased through the wall to the outside. I saw the ghost staring at itself from afar and I hovered over to it (the ghost that’s been taunting me in my mind). It did a double-take when it saw me. I looked into its eyes and it screamed.
I woke up for real this time. I looked out the window and saw a trail of fire. I climbed down the ladder on my bunk bed and there was no bookcase in my room. I don’t remember ever having one. Was this all a dream or did a ghost really take over my mind?
