Kevin watched an episode of Lakedale, but he couldn’t stay focused on the show. He couldn’t stop thinking about Corey’s need to help him. Do I need help? Maybe I need to see a therapist or talk to Corey? Kevin thought. He stroked the black bangs of his hair back and sighed.

A few months later, Kevin had been seeing a therapist once every few weeks. His friend Aresa had another party.

He opened the door to the party and saw Corey sitting on a chair in the corner alone. Kevin walked over to Corey.

“Hey, Kevin.”

“Hey, I’m — I’m seeing a therapist now. Thanks for pushing me.”

“You’re welcome. Maybe we could be friends.”

“I don’t know, I’ll think about it.” Kevin walked away to grab a small bag of potato chips on the table.

He walked back to Corey while eating the chips.

“Here, I got you these cool ranch chips.”

“Thanks, they’re my favorite.”

Corey opened the bag and ate them.

The front door opened as more people came in and a snake slithered in between their feet. It didn’t bite anyone, but it did stop and hiss at people. Those people ran off and left. The host, Aresa tried to catch the snake, but she was afraid it would bite her.

She finally caught it an hour later with a box.

The few remaining guests including Corey and Kevin stayed and mingled.

A curious and bored guest walked into the kitchen and rummaged around. He found the wine stash in the bottom cabinet and he started drinking it.

The other guests came into the kitchen to get some of the leftover cake and saw the drunk guy. They tried to stop him before Aresa saw him, but he didn’t stop. They tried to talk to him and even took the wine bottle away from him, but he grabbed another one.

Aresa came into the kitchen after she heard all the commotion. She saw shattered glass shards all over the floor and a drunk man sitting on the floor. “That’s my parents’ wine! I’m going to be

in serious trouble if they find out.” She pulled the man up and pushed him out of her house. She grabbed a broom and swept up the mess. She mopped up.

“Do you need any help?” Corey asked.

“No, I just need everyone to leave!” Aresa shouted.

Everyone set their plates down and walked out.

A week later at work, Kevin bagged for Aresa (she’s the cashier).

“Did your parents find out about the wine?”

“They did, they wanted a drink a few nights later and found a few wine bottles missing.”

“What did you say?”

“I told them, ‘Someone got into the wine cabinet and drank some wine. I stopped them and kicked them out.’ They grounded me for a month for not stopping him sooner and they won’t let me have another party ever.”

“That’s rough. Hey, at least you weren’t grounded for two months.”

“Very funny.” She continued to ring in the items and said to the customer. “That’ll be one-o-one eighty.”

Kevin finished setting the grocery bags into the carriage.

“At least you didn’t have to pay them for the wine,” Kevin says to Aresa.

“That’s true,” she laughed a little.

Kevin kept bagging.
