Gabe and Cillian
Gabe
Gabe, a man in his mid-twenties sat by the fire in his fireplace and contemplated his life decisions. He caressed his short brown hair with curls as he sat by the fire. He wore jeans and a T-shirt to stay warm and cuddled under a blanket. He couldn’t love anyone else, but himself. His heart was broken by the marriage and later his divorce from Cillian.
He walked outside into the cold and trudged through with his snow boots on into the unknown. He didn’t know where he was going until he tripped and fell down the side of a mountain.
The fall was long and it knocked him unconscious.
Days later at the hospital, he awoke to the sound of beeping from the heart monitor. The nurse, nurse Dawn, gave him the cell phone that fell out of his pocket. The rescuers found it in the rubble. It said, “December 25th, 2018.” Before COVID-19 hit the world. The window opened by the nurse let in a cold breeze, which froze everything in sight, but she quickly closed it to let everything melt.
The snow stopped outside and the air was still cold, but Gabe needed rest.
He rested for hours until the nurse Dawn woke up and shook him.
His ex-boyfriend, Cillian, nicknamed Cill, entered and he played the song, “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. Cillian also in his twenties loved Gabe with all of his heart, but they broke up months ago. Cill was blond with curly short locks and tried to kiss Gabe, but he ignored it.
It reminded Gabe of their past and the repercussions of it all.
Cillian kissed Gabe on the cheek, but Gabe let out a scream since they were broken up. Gabe was distraught and knew he had to leave, but he couldn’t move his legs. His legs were broken. He could barely move, but the nurse helped him, and stood up on his own.
“I’m sorry about the breakup. We need to talk and I hope you heal soon,” Cillian said to Gabe.
“I don’t forgive you. This all happened months ago,” Gabe replied.
“Well, I’m glad you’re safe and for now, we can be friends.”
“I don’t know about this.”
The broken Gabe waddled toward the window and fell through the glass. Cillian tried to save him, but it was too late since the nurse stepped out.
Cillian
The nurses gathered around the possibly dead man.
One of the nurses checked his pulse and claimed him dead on the spot.
Cillian yelled in anguish as his ex-boyfriend lay on the ground.
Weeks later, all of Gabe’s family and friends visited him at the funeral. Cillian gave his eulogy.
“My friend and ex-boyfriend. I long to see you, but you are dead now. In heaven you lay. I will miss you forever even if we only dated for a few years. I’m sorry we broke up. It was me not you,” Cillian eulogized.
He wept on his ex-boyfriend’s casket until the funeral staff took it away.
He visited him on that day in the cemetery and he visited him once a year on the anniversary of his death.
