Hovering and Flying

Wricity was a normal city, but for some reason, it was chosen.

At the middle school, James looked out the window of his science class as he did every day. He was bored by science and his teacher’s monotone voice. Then he heard a buzzing becoming louder and louder. He thought nothing of it until it caused a ringing in his ear. The school was put into lockdown until further notice. Everyone in the classroom rushed to the window. A red light neared. Once it arrived, it cut through the forest behind the school and around the groundkeeper’s shed. The laser beam continued to cut through the dirt and roads out of the city.

The laser beam disappeared.

In the office building on Third Street, Georges’ boss had finally given her that corner office. She sat in it her new chair and spun around in it. But then Georges and everything in her office began to hover and float above the ground. This happened to every citizen until a tractor beam hemispherically bubbled the city and pulled it into space.

Weeks later, they ran out of food, but they finally arrived on the distant planet, Uzeki in the Andromeda Galaxy.

The hemispheric bubble popped once they landed. The citizens walked out of their homes and breathed in the oxygen-rich air.

“Don’t be alarmed, humans. I am Krog the king of this planet, Uzeki.”

The mayor walked up to the king and questioned.“Don’t be alarmed? You pulled us away from our home planet and kidnapped — city-napped us. Why?”

“We’ve been studying humanity for millennia. Watching how you live, what you eat and drink. We even learned English from you humans. We’ve conducted all the research we need to and…”

“And now what?”

“Now, this.” The king pressed a button on the back of his wrist.

A glass dome formed over the city. Air conditioners on poles rose out of the dirt and turned on.

A metal door pushed up from the ground and over the front of the dome. Another laser cut through the glass where the door covered it. The door fell into place.

In the coming weeks, a zoo was built around the domed city. The citizens were given food and clothes, but they were silver jumpsuits with blue boots. They took the new clothes since their old clothes were filthy.

One of them tried to escape by digging a hole below the dome, but they were immediately caught by the guards and thrown back into the dome. They were stuck.

One day an alien baby threw his glass bottle at the dome and a cracked formed. It was quickly repaired by robots.

If they did try to escape, where would they go? Into the alien city? They would stick out and get captured.

They need a way back to earth. So, in secret, they thought of a plan to steal one of the alien’s spaceships. But how could get everyone in Wricity out of the dome and on a ship?

Days later, the mayor sent out five smart and skilled citizens to dig a hole, distract the guards, and steal a ship. But the guard sent out reinforcements once they distracted the guards and escaped. The escapees were thrown back into the dome.

Years after more failed attempts, aliens from the planet of Kotar protested in front of the exhibit/dome. News of the intelligent lifeforms’ escapes and welfare spread across the Andromeda Galaxy and these holistic and vegetarian aliens wanted to save them. But they were asked to leave and then kicked out by the zoo management.

The Kotarans had another idea. They used their spaceship’s tractor beam to pull the city out of the ground. But the Uzekians got word of this and counter-tractor beamed the city back into the ground.

The galactic government, the Galactic Unification or GU heard of their misdeeds against intelligent life. They had been stealing animals and humans from around the universe for thousands of years. They jailed certain government officials and brought the humans back to Earth.

The citizens of Wricity had to re-adjust to earth living, working and buying their own food and clothes. They told their stories to the people of Earth. Technology had advanced a little and the Wricity-zens had to learn how to use them. Similar to how elderly people have to learn how to use computers and smartphones. But they were happy to be back on Earth.
