Jennifer and Ryan had been dating for 6 months. Ryan said he would be hanging out at the bar with his guy friends tonight. Jennifer told him that she would be at a bar downtown for a girls’ night.

Later that night, Jennifer met with her girl-friends at the Last Floor Bar, the bar on the top floor of the Scarlet Hotel.

An hour later, one of Jennifer’s friends says, “Is that Ryan over there?”

She looks across the bar to see a tall man with brown hair and red glasses.

“It looks like he’s with another woman,” Jennifer’s other friend says.

“No, my Ryan is not a cheater. And why would he be at the same bar?” Jennifer asked.

Jennifer walks over to investigate; she walks past him to get a better look. She glimpses him pull out his phone and sees the name “Jen” as the header of a text conversation. It’s him, but how do I get him to notice me? She thought.

Jennifer went to the bar to order a drink, thinking he would hear her voice and recognize it. But alas the noise level was too high for him to hear her. She then told the bartender to send a drink to the man in red glasses.

“I didn’t order a drink,” Ryan says.

“Compliments of the lady in the red dress at the bar,” the waiter says. Jennifer turns around in her chair and waves at Ryan. Ryan pulls Jennifer to the balcony and he says, “Jen, what are you doing here?”

“What am I doing here? What are you doing here?” Jen asks back.

“Uh…” Ryan says, trying to think of an excuse.

“Clearly you’re on a date with a younger woman. Why would you do this to me, Ryan? Am I too old? Not pretty enough?” Jen says hysterically as tears drip down her face.

“No, no, you’re beautiful. I just wanted to — ” Jen interrupts Ryan and says, “You wanted to what? See other people? Was I not enough for you?”

“No, let me explain. I met her at work, she’s the office secretary,” Ryan says.

“Really? And how long have you been seeing her?” Jen asked. “Uh…” Ryan says before Jen pushes him off the balcony and on top of a parked car.

Ryan wakes up from a two-week coma. He is in a full-body cast; his arms and legs have to be held up from ropes on the ceiling. Jen and his mistress are sitting by his bedside.

“So, what do you have to say for yourself?” Asked his mistress, Courtney.

“I can explain, Jen and I have been dating for six months and I wanted to break it off with her, but it was the longest relationship I’d ever been in. And I didn’t want to break that off.

“You deserve what happened to you. You’re a sick man and I never want to see you again,” Jen says. She rushes out of the room.

“It’s over, Ryan. And here’s your stupid necklace back.” Ryan’s mouth is open, he’s about to say something, but then the necklace flings into his mouth and down his throat. He chokes and dies.
